Selecting a Contractor

Selecting the right company to work on your home is a big decision. You want to be sure that the company can do the work proposed, will take care of your home in the process, and will maintain a high level of attention to your project, start to finish.

    General Suggestions

Get three estimates from similar size contractors to ensure that you get a well rounded view of project issues, costs and timelines.

Make your selection based on overall value not just cost. Spending a little less to get an end product that you are not pleased with is no bargain.

Ensure all prospective contractors carry insurance, are covered by the WSIB, and have the financial and human resources to complete your project with the attention it deserves.

Ask each contractor for financing suggestions. You just might get a tip that could save you money.

Hire a professional contractor.  Ask how many employees they have, what organizations they belong to, and if they in good standing with their suppliers and local authorities.
